There is another world apart from ours. A world that was once beautiful but now is a hostile place ruined by war and hate. A blood stained world...

Humans have ignored the existence of this other world because their destinies have never been bound to it...

But that is about to change since the king and creator of the other world has been murdered. His strength and will had disappeared as the time passed, turning him into and old and defenseless being.

However, that didn't change the fact that within him the incredible power that allowed him to create that other world still existed. Because of that he was attacked by an entity called Final: A powerful creature that emerged from the infinite chaos that exists in the space between both worlds. In a single attack he ripped the king's heart and ran away with it to the depths of chaos.

It is said that the one that succeeds at freeing the power within the heart will be given an extraordinary strength; a power that could end all that exists if it falls into the wrong hands.

Hello, I'm Andrés Borghi, creator of "The black heart". This fighting videogame didn't start as a full videogame actually. Back in the year 2002 I started creating characters for the M.U.G.E.N. engine. For those of you who don't know, M.U.G.E.N. is a fighting game engine created by Elecbyte. It allows you to create your own fighting game characters to make them face each other. You can also make the backgrounds, the lifebars and every part of the game to create a full fighting game too. Most people recreates fighters from comercial games like
Street fighter or King of fighters in M.U.G.E.N. so they can have matches that would never happen in a comercial game and others, like me, create they fighters from scratch developing its concept, drawing the sprites and coding them. People liked my chars and once I had 5 of them already finished I came up with the idea of gathering them in a full fighting game using the M.U.G.E.N. engine so I started thinking a story that could gather these unrelated characters within a closed script and yet keeps them basically unchanged. This game is the result of that effort that started 7 years ago. I had several collaborations and lots of help from friends and people from the M.U.G.E.N. community but we could say the whole game is made by me. That could be good or could be bad depending on how you look at it but it's just the way it is. Also, the M.U.G.E.N. engine is very good but it has lots of flaws and bugs that I can't fix so please don't get mad if the game crashes suddenly for no reason, but don't worry, that will rarely happen. Thanks and I hope you enjoy the game!

The game has been inspired by many things. We could say the first one is the Splatterhouse games saga by Namco for Turbo Grafx 16 and Sega Genesis. The first character I created for M.U.G.E.N. was Rick, the protagonist of the Splatterhouse games. It was a buggy char full of all the mistakes that any M.U.G.E.N. noob makes but it worked as my first char. The second one was Shar-makai, whose image is inspired by the monsters in the Splatterhouse games. Before making him for M.U.G.E.N., he was a character from an indie horror movie I made in the year 1999 called Necropolis. It was a cheap zombie flick that included some weird monsters and the existence of other world parallel to ours. That world was all red, stained in blood by a series of wars that had happened there. The idea of a blood stained world came from the movie Evildead 2 by Sam Raimi. Of course that other world in Necropolis is the same world that is mentioned in The Black Heart so I can affirm that the story of The Black Heart was born in Necropolis. At the moment I was reading The Dark Tower books by Stephen King and I was fascinated at how he linked characters and events between his books even if they were not related at all. So, I made Necropolis with that same idea in mind: Creating some characters that I would use again some time in some other movie so they link together if you look closely. I started making Shar-makai for M.U.G.E.N. just as a homage to my own movie, not thinking about a whole full game related to Necropolis. But then I started to have an idea about other movie that could be related to that other world. It was an epic trilogy about a man called Rafael who had to travel to the other world to rescue his wife who had been kidnapped by some odd creatures while being helped by a hideous being locked inside a mask. This plot was obviously inspired by the Splatterhouse games too, mostly when talking about a mask (I'll have to change that detail some day). That project was so ambitious that I had to let it rest in the back of my mind till I have 40 years old or something and I have the possibility to make such a big movie. Many years later (2007) I came out with the idea of gathering all my M.U.G.E.N. chars into a full game. That's when the idea of the epic movie returned to my head. I thought about making a game with a story linked to the Necropolis events which would serve as a prequel to that epic trilogy. So I started writing the story for the game thinking also about how to clean the path for the trilogy without making any weird choises that I would regret when writing the trilogy so many years later. So I had to think forward. That way I came out with a story that I liked and I knew would work in the trilogy too. The problem was that I couldnt respect the events in Necropolis if I wanted that to work so I had to exclude Necropolis from the canon of the game and the trilogy. So, when that movie comes out in many years (if it actually happens) you will be able to say: "Hey! This is related to The Black heart! Did you play it?"

I'm also a movie director and multimedia artist. You can check my personal web:
